Kohei YAMADA

Kohei YAMADA's (b. 1997) Untitled (2023) series are paintings that depict the scenery of the intermediate zone between city and nature. The abstract screen with contrasting geometric color planes leads to imagining a meditative space beyond the visual world. The vague forms in the screen deliberately reveal the trajectory of linear brushstrokes. Each form is a fragmented piece of the linear city and an expansive intrusion of organic nature. The screen showcases a paradoxical and beautiful balance of the two worlds' push and pull, keeping the dynamic possibilities of the in-between space widely open.

Kohei YAMADA was born in Osaka in 1997. He received his BFA in Oil Painting at Musashino Art University in 2020 and enrolled his MFA in Fine Arts at Kyoto University of the Arts from 2022. He has held solo exhibitions at Taka Ishii Gallery (Tokyo, Japan, 2023), Biscuit Gallery (Tokyo, Japan , 2022), MtK Contemporary Art (Kyoto, Japan, 2022), and more. He has participated in group exhibitions at ARARIO GALLERY SEOUL (Seoul, Korea, 2024), Taka Ishii Gallery Maebashi ( Gunma, Japan, 2023), ARARIO GALLERY SHANGHAI (Shanghai, China, 2022), Biscuit Gallery (Tokyo, Japan, 2022), Ginza Tsutaya Books (Tokyo, Japan, 2021) and more. He won CAF Award, Contemporary Art Foundation (Japan) in 2020.
