Displayed in a vitrine close to the entrance to “The Fragility of Time,” a focused and revealing exhibition of Malani’s work from the mid-1960s through the early ’80s, this archival tidbit underscored the then-twenty-year-old artist’s self-assured approach to a time-tested practice.
