Unbo (雲甫) Kim Ki Chang (1914–2001) was a pioneering artist who played a pivotal role in modernizing traditional Korean painting within Korea’s modern and contemporary art scene. Having acquired a hearing disability at a young age and lived in silence throughout his life, he conveyed his artistic vision through works distinguished by dynamic brushstrokes and an extraordinary sense of vitality. This exhibition seeks to reassess the aesthetic and historical significance of Unbo’s seven-decade artistic career, spanning from the 1930s to the 1990s.
