In the orientation-lost atmosphere, the artists such as Wang Guangyi, Fang Lijun, Zhang Xiaogang, Yue Minjun, Yang Shaobin, Zeng Hao, Sui Jianguo, Liu Jianhua and Wang Du found a new approach in order to change the significance of art. They discover, extend, change, and construct a new modern painting aesthetics from “folk culture”, “pop culture”, “art history”, “photography”, “pictorial entity”, or “vignette.” Therefore, in the whole art form, the nine artists show a common aesthetics tendency - to build an artistic characteristic relating to popular culture. In their view, painting and sculpture are the subjective representation of the object; they are the starting point of imagination, the explanation of one’s inner world and the modification or subversion of art phenomenon.
