[News] Conversations with Artists in KIAF Seoul & Plus: NOH Sangho

NOH Sangho draws again today in a routine he has set himself up. While drawing a set amount of pictures regularly, he started working on airbrushing, and also think about objects and animations made with 3D printers. The steadiness with the aim of drawing more quickly and more is likely to allow him one more step up in the near future.

There's another studio in the studio.

It's been about 10 months since I used this studio. I didn't use my studio for a while because I can do the work I was doing at home, but I'm working on a new airbrush.

The airbrush has created a new environment.

I'm drawing sensations going back and forth between digital and analog, and I think I was looking for a material to metaphor for that part. The airbrush sprays, but it doesn't stick to the canvas.I found it interesting that it was an indirect tool, and since I'm a person whose speed is very important in the context of painting, I've chosen a new airbrush.

Isn't it hard to get uniform quality in all the pictures if you focus on speed?

I don't check the quality. The process of accepting and releasing something every day in a set routine is important, so whether the quality is good or not, you don't judge it and keep completing it. I don't check those parts when I look for images.

You can say that you constantly train yourself every day.

There's this story among the theory of conversation. If you increase the quantity instead of checking the quality when teaching students, it grows faster. Sometimes I feel like my drawing skills have improved every three to four years. Many people say that they grow up step by step, taking English study as an example, and I also have that experience very often.

If I draw like this every day, I think I will be able to get to know people well in today's country.

I've been thinking about something for about a year, but now I'm not very curious about external evaluations. I thought this would be a good condition. Of course, it's not that anyone feels bad about evaluating my paintings, it's just that I don't care or check.

What kind of work is going on in the recent routine?

I used to use watercolors a lot, but I wanted to express it in a stronger form, so I've been using oil paints a lot lately. I used airbrush very often, and I started working on 3D. We collect 3D modeling for 3D work, just as we collect images from the Internet for reference in oil painting work. I'm trying to make some kind of meme by deploying and filming the modeling in the 3D world.

I might be expanding another world with the images I collected while working on 3D.

Every time I do that, the fun of the world increases, but I wonder if I haven't seen it. If you take fashion as an example, you can be interested in high fashion and think that it's the same thing you'll meet at some point. But maybe I haven't seen interesting brands that come out of the lower range.I think Instagram is the same.At some point, people don't increase their following anymore. It's so overwhelming just looking at it now.

I'm going to participate in Kiaf Seoul soon. Is there anything you're looking forward to?

Since the art fair is not an exhibition, I can't just set it up in the condition I want. But that's why I think it's fun.I thought Fair could look like a huge Instagram. If you compare it to music, it feels more like a single album than a regular album.I feel like I have to condense it into just one.I think there will be an interesting point where you can show the changes of the times in the part where you look at art.

Will the sales influence it?

That's right. However, I have a thought that came to mind when the work was sold. There's nothing to do because it's sold, or not to try just because it's not sold.To put it a little directly, there are some things that remain in my mind that collector said before.I said, "The heart here is so cute." But it didn't fit my work at all.I thought about whether I should put a heart on my way home.I came to think that being influenced in this way wasn't helpful to me as a result.

Some words are always included even if you try to pass them.

That's why I don't stop by the fair often. The artist may feel strange pressure depending on whether he or she is labeled red label.Still, thanks to Instagram, I think I'm trained to be detached from the response.I upload pictures every day, so I see statistics about posting. So I actually know what kind of pictures people like.I just think it's important to know, and I don't let go of it.

I've tried to hang a piece on a hanger in an exhibition before. What new exhibition do you want to try?

I want to expand the way I hang it on the hanger. You hang a lot of airbrush paintings like clothes in a space that looks like a editing store. It's about 300 to 400 large paintings and 2,000 small drawings.I want to operate it in the form of a shop, not an exhibition hall. It's not an exhibition that ends after a certain period of time, but it's operated like an editing store, and there's a studio on one side, so every time I work on it, a new painting takes place like a new one.

Half the year has passed. What are the remaining plans for the second half of the year?

I have a goal to reduce the rest of the work other than the work.I'm trying to change my lifestyle and consumption patterns accordingly.I did the opposite a year or two ago."Yeah, let's try to see how much we earn if we move," he said, and I worked and spent money when I got the chance, but it wasn't suitable for me.This year's plan is to continue to reduce work and increase the amount of work, to faithfully follow the routine and live a life with dinner.
