[News] 'Only the Young: Experimental Art in Korea, 1960s-1970s'

'Only the Young: Experimental Art in Korea, 1960s-1970s,' which began at the Hammer Museum on February 11, is an amazing exhibition. Amazingly, bold avant-garde experimental art was in full bloom in Korea during this period and also, amazingly, its content and level are world-class even now. The exhibition was co-organized over six years by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Korea and the Guggenheim Museum in the U.S. and moved to LA after being introduced in Seoul and New York last year.
When entering the exhibition hall, the first things that stand out are the installation works. Among them, "Kiss Me (1967)," by JUNG Kangja (1942-2017) has the overwhelming power. A sculpture that largely embodies a woman's lips, it reveals a woman's body, desire, and language that has been suppressed in a patriarchal society.
