[News] Korea is narrow for them...Artists born in the 80s who travel abroad

Artists who were born in the 1980s are making a remarkable leap forward. Compared to the 1960s and 1970s when senior artists such as Seo Doho and Yang Hyegyu expanded their base by studying abroad and doing activities, the next generation of "national representatives" has many Korean players such as LEE Jinjoo, Woo Hanna, Jeon Hyunseon, and Jeong Heemin. Thanks to Korean art's elevated status, Korean artists are advancing overseas without time lag. Another driving force is the active search for Korean artists in overseas galleries.

LEE Jinjoo, born in 1980, has been inundated with love calls from overseas since she opened the opening exhibition of the "White Cube Seoul" in 2023. She has been invited as the only Korean artist to join the exhibition at Esther Schipper, Berlin, titled "Twilight is a Place of Promise" that opened on June 29. She will be joined by renowned artists such as Caroline Kuhn and Cecilia Bikuña. From October 20 to February next year, she will hold a solo exhibition at the Yuz Museum, one of the largest in Shanghai. She will introduce the artist's overall work and use "Lee Jeongbae Black" to showcase her unique portrait paintings that look into the abyss of human existence. Expectations are high on how the Korean traditional oriental painting will resonate in China.
