The theme of the Jeju Biennale begins with an anthropological and sociological examination of the phenomenon of "drifting," where diverse elements converge and disperse, and seeks to establish a new sense of empathy toward nature and art.
The keyword "drifting" encompasses a wide range of social, cultural, and political issues. Jeju Island itself holds a history shaped by drifting. Movements and migrations caused by drifting have allowed Southern and Northern cultures to coexist, collide, and ultimately form Jeju's unique ecological environment and identity. This exhibition reflects on the journeys of civilizations through drifting, encompassing the migration and movement of nature and cultural arts, as well as the ecosystems of survival and transformation.
