ARARIO GALLERY SEOUL is presenting a solo exhibition by JUNG Kangja titled It Was the Primitive That Called Me Again from November 15th to December 30th, 2023. JUNG Kangja, a trailblazing female avant-garde artist, has left an indelible mark on contemporary Korean art history. Recognized as one of the first-generation performance artists in Korea, her bold performances played a pivotal role in shaping the experimental art scene during the 1960s and 70s. Despite not always receiving the recognition she deserved in the Korean art world, JUNG Kangja relentlessly pursued her art, considering it the essence and purpose of her life, up until her passing. This exhibition, her first in five years following a retrospective at ARARIO GALLERY SEOUL and CHEONAN in 2018, shines a light on her work from 1995 to 2010. It features a collection of her paintings, notable for their vibrant colors and a distinctive sense of challenge, encapsulating her artistic journey.
